Background:

The California State Preschool Program Contract No. CSPP-3526 between the California Department of Education and the Child Development Program combines all Full and Half Day Preschool Programs and the Pre-Kindergarten and Family Literacy Programs.  The Santa Barbara Unified School Districts’ Child Development Program has 6 full day preschool classrooms and 15 part day preschool classrooms along with 2 full day Pre-Kindergarten and Family Literacy Programs.  Each classroom is licensed by the state of California, Community Care Licensing Division.  Combining all preschool programs, approximately 530 students are served.  Families must meet State Department of Education income guidelines in order to qualify for the program. 

The contract funds are mainly used for certificated and classified salaries for each classroom.  The remainder of the contract pays for instructional materials, professional development, business operations and custodian support and supplies.

Recommendation:That the Board of Education adopt Resolution No. 2013/2014-01 authorizing entering into Contract No. CSPP-3526, California State Preschool Programs between the Santa Barbara Unified School Districts’ Child Development Program and the California Department of Education for the 2013/14 school year.
