Background:

Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 1113 “District and School Web Sites” are being updated to reflect district practice regarding posting of student photos online.  The changes will make our policy and regulation consistent with the paragraph on photography and/or filming of students in the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians, which states: 

If, for any reason, you do not want your child’s likeness to be used by the Santa Barbara Unified School District or by the news media for the purpose of positive publicity about school activities or student achievement, please notify your school office immediately.  

We have created an opt-out form which is posted on the district website that parents can use if they wish to prevent publication of their child’s photo on the district or school website, or other media.  If a parents fills out the form after their child’s photo has been published, the form has a space for parents to indicate which page(s) the photo has been published on to help identify the photo for removal.
Recommendation:The Board of Education is asked to review the revisions to Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 1113 "District and School Web Sites" and provide feedback to staff for second reading and adoption.
