Agenda Title:Approval of Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Santa Barbara Police Department for the Provision of Crossing Guards from August 2013 through June 2016 School Years
Background:The Santa Barbara Police department (SBPD) notified the district in June of 2009 that the City of Santa Barbara would no longer provide funding for the operation of a crossing guard program. As a result, the City of Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Unified School District entered into a three year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July of 2010. The MOU will expire on July 3, 2012.

SBUSD has met with city staff and agreed that the MOU should be renewed for an additional three year term, and that the cost of operating the program should continue to be shared between the SBUSD and the city on a fifty/fifty basis.

Crossing guard services will be provided to the following elementary sites: Franklin, Harding, Monroe, Washington, Roosevelt, Adams and Cleveland.

Additionally, the SBPD will provide crossing guard services to Peabody Charter School and SBUSD will bill Peabody Charter School for the services.
Recommendation:It is recommended that the board approve the MOU with the SBPD for the provision of crossing guards for August, 2013 through June, 2016.
