Agenda Title:

Discussion of Alliant Employee Benefits’ Health and Wellness Consulting Services Proposal

Background:

Health care costs have increased dramatically over the last few decades and have resulted in the current political reevaluation of our country’s health care system, its funding and its performance. For these reasons, the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) staff felt compelled to seek other options for its employees. To accomplish this, the SBUSD solicited proposals for health and wellness consulting services to assist with the process of finding the best option for SBUSD employees.

The request for proposal was composed of ten questions ranging from implementing a self-funded health and wellness plan to developing alternative plan designs for the district and its employees. Staff selected a review panel which consisted of classified and certificated union representatives, and human resource and fiscal department employees. The review panel interviewed four brokers and determined overwhelmingly that Alliant Employee Benefits’ proposal was the best choice.

Alliant Employee Benefits is the twelfth largest brokerage firm in the United States. It has experience with schools and is familiar with the issues regarding the Santa Barbara area. The panel felt that Alliant Employee Benefits had the resources to educate, implement and achieve the best results for the district’s needs.
