Item Title: | Submission of Santa Barbara Unified School District's School Safety Plans | Agenda Title: | Submission of Santa Barbara Unified School District's School Safety Plans. | Background: | California Education Code (§32280 - 32289) provides the requirements for a Comprehensive School Safe Plan. Education Code (§35294.6) requires that each school site review and update their school safety plan by March 1 of each year. The following Education Code section detail some of the requirements for a comprehensive school safety plan, specifically CEC §35294.1 (b)(1) indicating that the school site council will write and develop a comprehensive school safety plan relevant to the needs and resources of that particular school. Also, CEC §35294.1(2) provides that the school site council may delegate this responsibility to a school safety planning committee and requires that the school safety plan include the following:
Assessing the current status of school crime.
Identifying appropriate strategies and programs that will promote school safety and address the school's procedures for complying with existing laws related to school safety, such as:
Child Abuse Reporting Procedures
Disaster procedures, routine, and emergency (SEMS/NIMS: State Emergency Management System/National Incident Management System).
Suspension, expulsion, or mandatory expulsion recommendations.
Procedures to notify teachers of dangerous pupils.
Sexual harassment policy.
Provisions of any school wide dress code.
Procedures for safe ingress and egress.
Safe and orderly environment and rules and procedures on school discipline.
