| Background: | In the late 90’s the Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association (GVGSA) constructed four softball fields at the north east end of the Dos Pueblos High School Campus. Information in district files indicated that the construction of the fields would not impact the district budget and that GVGSA sought a long term commitment for field use. The district did not want a long term contract that would prevent the district from using the property for another use if the district had a future need and as a result of this, no formal agreement was ever approved by either board. When the fields were built, the district received re-claimed water from Glenn Anne Golf Course at a minimal cost.
On March 10, 2009 the district entered into a five year agreement with the GVGSA. The agreement memorialized the verbal understanding under which the fields were used and required that the GVGSA pay for its fair share of the cost of reclaimed water. Two of the four softball fields are estimated to be 1/8 of the turf area served by reclaimed water and if that total area changes within the term of the agreement, a modification will be brought forward for board approval. This 2nd five year agreement expires on December 31, 2018. |
