Item Title:Notice of Public Hearing and Approval of Resolution 12/13-10 Regarding Sufficiency of Instructional Materials for Year-Round Elementary Schools
Agenda Title:Notice of Public Hearing and Approval of Resolution 12/13-10 Regarding Sufficiency of Instructional Materials for Year-Round Elementary Schools
Background:
California Education Code Section 60119 (as revised by Chapter 118, Statutes of 2005 and California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 5, Section 9531) states that in order to be eligible to receive instructional materials funds, the governing board of each elementary district is required to hold an annual public hearing before the end of the eighth week from the first day pupils attend school for that year and adopt a resolution stating whether each pupil in the district has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials that are aligned to the academic content standards and are consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum frameworks adopted by the State Board of Education (SBE) in Reading/Language Arts/English Language Development, Mathematics, History/Social Science, and Science.

A review of the instructional programs at year-round elementary schools (Cleveland School and the Santa Barbara Community Academy) for 2012-2013 has determined that the Santa Barbara Unified School District has provided both schools sufficient State Board of Education-adopted textbooks in Reading/Language Arts/English Language Development, Mathematics, History/Social Science, and Science.

Please note that though Cleveland School and the Santa Barbara Community Academy are using a reading language arts textbook from the 2002 adoption list that expired November 2008 and are no longer state adopted, districts may continue to use them to meet the sufficiency requirements of EC Section 60119.

The title and publisher of each State Board of Education-adopted textbook for each core instructional area in use at Cleveland school and the Santa Barbara Community Academy is attached.
Recommendation:That the Board adopt Resolution 12/13-10 stating there is a sufficiency of instructional materials for year-round elementary schools (Cleveland and the Santa Barbara Community Academy) for the 2012-2013 school year.
