National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month was established in 1988. The law was passed to celebrate Hispanic-Latino Americans as well as the anniversaries of independence of six Latin American countries.
As a nation where 16.7 percent of the population is Hispanic-Latino; a state where 38.1 percent of the population is Hispanic-Latino; and a school district where 58 percent of the students are Hispanic-Latino, this board resolution will recognize the rich heritage of the history, culture, and contributions of our community whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
