Approval of Presence Learning Consulting Services Agreement

Background:
Qualified speech/language pathologists will provide both direct and indirect speech and language services remotely, via the web, to 200 students with identified needs. Students will be selected to received services in this manner based on the criteria set by the agency that outlines those most likely to succeed with this approach. Ten school sites have been selected for implementation as follows: Adams; Adelante (bilingual staff will be provided); Cleveland; Franklin; GVJH; Harding; Monroe; Peabody; SB Charter; SBCA; SMHS; and Washington. Identified students who will receive therapy using this approach primarily have needs in articulation. Students with more involved language needs will continue to be served by district speech/language therapists.
Issue: There is a nationwide shortage of qualified speech/language pathologists to serve students with identified needs. Additionally, this approach will provide continuous data in which the therapist as well as the district staff can monitor each student's progress on his/her IEP goals. These speech pathologists are also able to conduct some mandated student assessments, as well as being able to participate in IEP meetings remotely.

| | Fiscal Impact: | There will be 200 students served at an annual cost of $1,576 per student, which equals $315,200. Additionally, there will be a maintenance and support fee of $50 per student, which equals $10,000. The total of the contract will be $325,200. Presence Learning will provide the district with 12 sets of suitable headsets, as well as a one time only credit for the purchase of new computers (needed to implement the program) of $6,291 (12 computers will be purchased). | | Funding Source: | Special Education |
