Agenda Title:Approval of 3rd Grade Swim to College Program with the University of California – Santa Barbara for Franklin and McKinley 3rd grade A-OK students, after school.
Background:
U.C.S.B. (University of California – Santa Barbara) began a 3rd Grade Swim to College Program two years ago with McKinley Elementary students. All 3rd graders were transported to U.C.S.B. for swim lessons.

Plan
The proposal is to offer U.C.S.B.’s 3rd Grade Swim Program to the 3rd grade A-OK (Afterschool Opportunities for Kids) students at Franklin and McKinley Elementary Schools. Students would be bused to U.C.S.B. twice a week for four weeks for swim lessons. On the last day of lessons, students would be exposed to the “Swim to College Day” and this would include a full afternoon of campus tours, college student panel, Certificate of Achievement Ceremony, and the last swim lesson. We would obtain releases from all students prior to the start of the program.
Recommendation:That the Board of Education approves the 3rd Grade Swim to College Program for 3rd grade A-OK students on the Franklin and McKinley Elementary School campuses.
