Due to the small number of 18 to 22 year old students with special needs who require a Transition Program (TP) in the Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD), it is not financially feasible for CUSD to operate its own TP. Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) has an established TP that meets the special needs of CUSD’s 18 to 22 year old students. This year, CUSD is requesting that SBUSD serve one of its students with special needs in our program.
The purpose of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) is to allow CUSD’s 18 to 22 year old students with special needs to attend SBUSD’s TP for an annual fee per student.
Students with special needs from CUSD who attend a program in the SBSUD will attend according to the terms of the MOU. These students with special needs will not be given an inter-district transfer.
CUSD will be charged $13,540 per student with special needs to provide special education services within a transition program for the 2012-13 school year. These special education services will include extended school year (ESY).
