Santa Barbara Unified School District has received site-based services from the Family Services Agency for a number of years. This counseling service provides the following: identification of high-risk children, individual and/or group counseling, outreach to parents/guardians, and critical incident response.
In addition, the school-based counselors establish goals for each child seen. These goals are individualized and are based upon the child’s present need/issue. Example of goals might include the following: decrease the number of negative behavioral incidents in the classroom, increase positive peer relationships, assist in the development of coping skills regarding parents’ death/divorce, or teach anger management skills
