One of the options that is offered by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for credentialing teachers is what is called a Variable Term Waiver. These types of credentials can cover statewide shortage areas such as math or physics, as well as other areas such as special education. They are typically used when no other type of credential can be issued by the CTC. The CTC requires that certain credentials, including the variable term waiver, be approved as an action item in order for them to be issued.
We are in need of variable term waivers for two of our teachers: Sarah Clement and Misty Sedehi. Ms. Clement has a Bachelor’s Degree in English with 20 semester units of French. She took over as the long term substitute teacher for Mrs. Newton at Santa Barbara High School when Mrs. Newton resigned in December. Ms. Clement was a pre-professional for two years in this particular classroom and was responsible for grading written French exams and administering oral French exams. She came highly recommended by Mrs. Newton.
Misty Sedehi is an experienced special education teacher. Mrs. Sedehi has an Education Specialist Credential with an emphasis in mild-moderate. She has extensive experience working with special needs children and is also replacing a teacher who resigned in December from the deaf hard of hearing program. The Deaf Hard of Hearing class is located at Adams Elementary School and the position is 60% time. The variable term waivers for both of these teachers will cover them until June 2013.
