Background:
Just Communities Central Coast (JCCC) provides customized training, professional development, and facilitation around issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity. JCCC will provide interpretation services that include the following topics (1) skill building in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, (2) ethical issues and interpreter’s role, (3) language, power, and social justice, and (4) creating an inclusive multilingual space. JCCC will assist the Santa Barbara Unified School District with design, administration, and facilitation of an Interpretation for Social Justice Workshop April 24-26, 2013.  
 
A training was conducted in August 2012. There was a high demand to do another training during the spring in order to have more people attend.  
 
Plan
The plan is to train up to 25 SBUSD staff members who are involved in interpreting at their respective sites.
Recommendation:That the Board of Education approves the Memorandum of Understanding between Just Communities Central Coast and Santa Barbara Unified School District.
