MAA assures that medical care is available to income eligible individuals and their families. This program reimburses school districts for the federal share (50 percent) of certain costs for administering the Medi-Cal program. Those activities include: outreach and referral; facilitating the Medi-Cal application; and MAA claims coordination.
The LEA Medi-Cal Billing Option Program provides federal financial participation reimbursement to LEAs’ school districts for health-related services provided by qualified medical practitioners to students receiving special education services and who are on Medi-Cal and their families. These funds are restricted and support speech pathologist, psychologist, nurses and related functions.
MBT trains staff for both MAA and LEA Medi-cal program so that they are able to submit time surveys and the district is reimbursed for these surveys. The district will enter into a three year contract to reduce the cost of administrating these two programs. The contract can be terminated if at any time the MAA funding is not available or the district decides not to participate in the LEA Medi cal program.
