Background:

The District’s insurance committee is composed of representatives from the administration and certificated and classified bargaining units. The committee met three times to review current and proposed changes to the District’s health and welfare insurance plans.

On May 16, 2013, the committee finalized its recommendations for insurance plans for medical, dental and vision, effective October 1, 2013.

Plan    

Overall, PPO plans will increase in cost by 12.7%; HMO plans will increase by 31%.

·       The District will continue to offer Anthem Blue Cross HMO 3

·       The District will offer Anthem Blue Cross PPO G, Anthem Blue Cross PPO L, and           Anthem Blue Cross PPO M

·       The District will continue to offer one Kaiser Permanente Medical HMO plan

·       There are no plan changes or premium increases to dental or vision

Recommendation:That the Board of Education retain SISC III (Anthem/Blue Cross) as our health insurance provider for the 2013-2014 school year.

Fiscal Impact:An increase of approximately $88,000.

One percent of the premium increase will come from the unrestricted fund and appropriate categorical funds on a proportional basis. Employee cost sharing is a function of ongoing negotiations.
