Background:

The principals of the respective secondary schools in the district have reported that at this time 1,571 students are eligible for graduation at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. This number may be revised following the results of final grades and other graduation requirements. Congratulations are in order to the schools, to the students’ families, and most of all to the students who have met the graduation requirements of the State of California, the State Board of Education, and the Santa Barbara Unified School District. The number of students graduating from each secondary school is listed below. A complete list of the graduates is included as an attachment.

            Alta Vista Alternative High School                             56

            Dos Pueblos High School                                          542

            La Cuesta Continuation High School                          47

            San Marcos High School                                           435

            Santa Barbara High School                                        491

A few students have not yet passed the High School Exit Exam taken in May (results will not be received until mid-summer). Their diplomas will be withheld until the Exit Exam has been passed.

Recommendation:That the Board of Education approves the issuance of diplomas to end-of-year secondary school graduates who have passed all state and district requirements.
