Background:

The Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) is recipient of a 2013-2014 After School Safety and Education (ASES) grant to provide a program on all regular school days at Adams, Adelante Charter, Cleveland, Franklin, Harding University Partnership, and McKinley Elementary Schools. Our ASES program, known locally as After School Opportunities for Kids (A-OK), is collaborative, structured, requires daily, full-program attendance, and provides academic and enrichment activities that support the Common Core State Standards and SBUSD’s Board goals for student achievement and safety. The City of Santa Barbara, Parks and Recreation Department has been one of the primary collaborative partners in this program since its inception in 1999.

The agreement will provide up to $157,613 (as outlined in the attached budget for personnel, supervision, and program supplies for six sites) for the 2013-2014 school year. The City of Santa Barbara, Parks and Recreation Department will provide $47,385 match funding for the A-OK program and in-kind support valued at $88,044 for matching staff salaries, benefits, and facility use at Harding Recreation Center, vehicle service, and administrative overhead costs, as described in the attached document.
