Santa Barbara Unified School District determines years of experience based on certain criteria as outlined in the agreement between Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) and the Santa Barbara Teacher's Association (SBTA). SBUSD will credit up to seven (7) years of previous experience for most positions, and ten (10) identified 'hard-to-fill' positions. This brings new employees hired for "hard to fill" positions with 7 years experience in at step 8 and new employees in hard to fill positions with 10 years experience in at step 11. We will enforce this increase retroactively 3 years to include those hired for the 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017 school years. We understand that this agreement will be reviewed year to year as to adjust to the hiring needs of SBUSD.
