Background:

The District’s property at Hidden Valley is an amazing resource that is underutilized.  Initial conversations between the district, the Audacious Foundation, and Kruger, Bensen, Ziemer Architects, Inc. (KBZ) have identified the potential for use of the property as a sustainable facility that could benefit the district, students, and the community.  Some of the potential uses identified are establishment of farming and an edible forest to support district cafeterias, development of an outdoor classroom for agricultural and environmental sciences and culinary arts, and a learning center that could be used for student instruction, staff development, and small events. 

This Board item is asking for approval to begin development of the conceptual plan. 

If approved, at future meeting the Board will see a report on the development of this plan. The Audacious Foundation has shown interest in a partnership to fund the project.  Details regarding this partnership will be brought to the Board for discussion and approval at a future meeting.

Recommendation:That the Board Approve Agreement for Architectural Services with Kruger, Benson, Ziemer Architects, Inc. (KBZ) for site assessment and land use options for the Hidden Valley property.
