The Santa Barbara Unified School District has worked with UCSB’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education for a number of years on a federally funded research Pathway/Literacy project; also known as the South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP).
SCWriP is designed to improve English Learner students’ academic writing. It is designed as an intervention program and takes a cognitive strategic approach to closing the achievement gap between EL student and their native English speaking peers.
SCWriP staff will plan, facilitate and arrange the logistics for retreats, meetings and professional development, along with teacher ready lessons and resources. They will also facilitate the registration to the UCI Winter Literacy Conference for 25 SBUSD teachers. Details of their work is listed in Exhibit A Statement of Work.
