Adams elementary school has seven portable classrooms that have been identified as needing replacement in our Measure J bond program.  The buildings are grouped in two different areas on site, the old library complex, and a group on the lower field.  Removing and replacing all of these buildings at the same time poses considerable challenges for the site including interim housing, contractor lay down areas, and parking. 

In addition, Adams is a site where more kindergarten classroom space is needed.  Staff has submitted an application for 50% state matching funds from the Full Day Kindergarten Grant Program (AB 1808) being administered by the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC).  School Facility Consultants, the vendor we use to help shepherd us through the state application process, has recommended that we separate the projects for ease of accounting.  While the projects will be separate from a construction and financial standpoint, it makes sense to consider the entire scope of work during the design phase. For this reason, proposals for both groups of portables are attached.

Kruger, Bensen, Ziemer Architects, Inc. has worked with the district on many projects, and is very familiar with both phases of this one. This agenda item is asking the Board to approve contracts with KBZ for the architectural services related to both phases of the project.
