On June 26, 2018 the Board approved commencement of the subject project with Lash Construction Co.
During grading operations in preparation for the new turf and track, the contractor discovered that some of the existing storm drain piping, electrical conduits for the stadium lighting, and water lines were in extremely poor condition, and could fail at any time. Since these utilities were located in areas that would be covered by the new turf and track surfaces, it made sense to replace them. In addition, the paving located under the outermost running lane on the track was discovered to be failing, and was not level with the rest of the pavement that the new track surface was going to be applied to. The repair involved grinding the existing paving and applying a pavement overlay to conform with the rest of the track. Doing the repair work after completion of the project would have required removal of the new track surface, and would have been much more expensive. These items were all discovery items that were located under the existing track and field during design, so they could not be anticipated prior to construction. The attached spreadsheet shows the revised contract price and the necessary funding to cover the increase. This project is nearly complete and staff do not anticipate further change orders.
