| Item Title: | Recommendation for Approval of a One year Contract between Just Communities Central Coast and Santa Barbara Unified School District (Carey/RamÃrez) | | Agenda Title: | Recommendation for Approval of a One year Contract between Just Communities Central Coast and Santa Barbara Unified School District (Carey/Ramírez) | | Background: | The Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) is seeking to contract the services of Just Communities Central Coast (JCCC) for the 2019-2020 school year to continue supporting the SBUSD’s LCAP Goal 1: "Through organizational transformation, develop a culturally proficient district to ensure success for all students." Board approval of this contract would allow the SBUSD to continue the momentum that has been generated over more than a decade of partnership. Specifically, flagship programming such as the Institute for Equity in Education (IEE), Talking in Class, and Parents Involvement through Dialogue & Action (PIDA) will continue to help raise awareness around root causes contributing to the opportunity and achievement gaps that exist across student groups. Additional programs such as the Family Equity Workshops and "One Room, Many Voices" will enhance this consciousness-building effort. This year a significant portion of the contract is aimed at developing the capacity of the district's own workforce to facilitate the leadership and learning of staff and students in the realm of cultural proficiency. Finally, all contracted services associated with professional learning, including Implicit Bias workshops, have been integrated into this comprehensive agreement. In comparison to School Year 2018-2019, the total cost of the contract with JCCC has been reduced by -13.45%. | | Recommendation: | Staff recommends the board approve the 2019-2020 school year contract with Just Communities Central Coast | | Resource Person: | Shawn Carey, Assistant Superintendent Secondary Education
