At Dos Pueblos High School (DPHS), The DP Foundation has been fundraising for an improvement project next to the Greek Theater. The project will be done in phases, with phase 1 intended to replace ornamental turfgrass that is not sustainable because of its use of water, and the because of the ongoing challenge of keeping the turf from being destroyed by tremendous foot traffic. The turfgrass will be replaced with concrete and drainage that will be Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliant. The location is ideal, because it will allow for much more room for students to congregate during special events at lunchtime in the Greek Theater, as well as provide much needed outdoor space with tables and benches that can be used for teaching and learning.  Phase 2 is an option to further develop the area when funding becomes available.

Through the use of donations, Associated Student Body (ASB) funds, and site discretionary funds, the school has raised enough funding to move forward with phase 1.  The selected contractor, Shaw Contracting, Inc. has provided price for the work of $59,000.  Shaw Contracting, Inc. has accomplished numerous successful projects for the district, and staff have been very pleased with their work.

This agenda item is asking for the Board to approve the use of site funds for the project, and to award a contract to Shaw Contracting, Inc. to perform the work.
