| Item Title: | Recognition of Juneteenth as a paid Holiday for our Classified Employees 2021 (Becchio) | | Agenda Title: | Recognition of Juneteenth as a paid Holiday for June 2021 (Becchio) | | Background: | On June 17th President Biden declared Juneteenth a paid Federal Holiday. Although the State of California did not formally adopt Juneteenth as a paid holiday, SB Unified through this action item will recognize Juneteenth 2021 as a paid holiday for SB Unified employees. This proposal is to compensate active employees who worked in their regular assignment on June 18th, 2021 by adopting a Board Holiday on Wednesday November 24, 2021. The intent of this board action is to compensate employees who were in their regular classified assignment on June 18, 2021, not hourly temporary contract assignments.
November 24, 2021 is not a work day for 11-month classified employees and therefore all active 11-month employees who were in paid status in their regular assignment on June 18, 2021 will receive a "floater" holiday that they can request off through there supervisor prior to June 1, 2022. The attached document has been negotiated with CSEA and we reached agreement on this form of compensation for the Juneteenth 2021 holiday. | | Recommendation: | A motion to approve the Juneteenth 2021 holiday compensation in the form of a paid Board Holiday on November 24, 2021 and a paid "floater" board holiday for 11-month employees who were in paid status for their regular assignment on June 18, 2021. | | Resource Person: | John Becchio, Ed.D
